Miller Buckfire, the independent investment bank, today announced that Susan C. Schwab, former United States Trade Representative (USTR), has joined the Miller Buckfire Board of Advisors.
Currently a Professor at the School of Public Policy of the University of Maryland, Ambassador Schwab has been an influential White House and Congressional advisor on international trade, commerce and foreign policy. As a member of President George W. Bush's Cabinet, she served as USTR from June 2006 until January 2009. Prior to her appointment, she served as Deputy USTR.
Before joining the Bush Administration, she was President and CEO of the University System of Maryland (USM) Foundation and USM Vice Chancellor for Advancement. Prior to that, she was Dean of Maryland's Public Policy School. She came to the University from Motorola, Inc., where she was Director of Corporate Business Development. During the administration of George H.W. Bush, she served as Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Director General of the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service.
During the 1980s, Ambassador Schwab served as legislative director for Senator John C. Danforth (R-Mo.). Previously, she served as a Trade Policy Officer in the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo. Her first job was as an agricultural trade negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.
Ambassador Schwab serves on the boards of FedEx Corp., Caterpillar Inc. and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Garten, Professor in International Trade, Finance and Business at Yale School of Management; Harvey Golub, retired Chairman and CEO of American Express; Dr. Jacob A. Frenkel, Vice Chairman of American International Group, Inc. and Chairman and CEO of the Group of Thirty (G-30); Fred Langhammer, Chairman of Global Affairs and former CEO of The Estee Lauder Companies; and Kenneth Whipple, Chairman and former CEO of CMS Energy, Inc.

Ambassador Schwab is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA). She holds a B.A. in Political Economy from Williams College, a Masters in Development Policy from Stanford University (Food Research Institute) and a Ph.D. in Public Administration and International Business from The George Washington University.
