John Orem is a Managing Director of Miller Buckfire.  Mr. Orem has more than 20 years of experience advising and raising capital for clients in the gaming, lodging, real estate and other industries. He most recently led Morgan Stanley’s capital raising and banking businesses for the global gaming industry, where he raised $30 billion of capital and advised on numerous M&A transactions for gaming clients including Argosy Gaming, Cannery Casino Resorts, Coast Resorts, Fontainebleau Resorts, Harrah’s Entertainment, Kerzner International, Lakes Entertainment, Las Vegas Sands, Macao Studio City, the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, MGM Mirage, the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians and Trump Entertainment Resorts.  Mr. Orem has advised and raised capital for numerous other leveraged companies including American Color Graphics, Advanced Medical Optics, Cablevision Systems, Charter Communications, Citizens Communications, CKE Restaurants, Crown Castle, Del Monte Foods, Extended Stay America, Host Marriott, Jack in the Box, Lamar Advertising Co., LIN TV, Lodgian, Pacificare, Primedia, Silgan, Smurfit Stone, Spectrasite, and Steel Dynamics.
 
Mr. Orem spent 20 years at Morgan Stanley, beginning in the Firm’s real estate group prior to moving into Leveraged Finance and Global Capital Markets and finally to the Banking Department where he ran the global gaming business.  Through his capital markets and banking positions Mr. Orem raised nearly $50 billion of debt and equity capital for leveraged clients.  While in real estate in the 1990s, Mr. Orem specialized in real estate debt, equity and equity-linked securities where he pioneered the CMBS financing business and executed the initial Morgan Stanley Real Estate Fund.  Mr. Orem has an MBA from the Columbia Business School and a BS in Civil Engineering from Lehigh University.
